Dose-reduction technologies for premium computed tomography (CT) systems

Excerpt: The utility of computed tomography (CT) imaging has led to growing use of the technology across many clinical disciplines, raising concerns about radiation overexposure. Therefore, most recent developments in CT technology have focused on radiation dose reduction. New, advanced dose-reduction features are typically available only on high-end, premium CT systems developed by major imaging manufacturers. Whereas previously, CT slice number (e.g., 64, 256, 320) was considered the hallmark of technologically advanced CT systems, the ability of a system to reduce radiation dose to patients has largely become the new hallmark.
