High Dose Chemotherapy (HDC) with Autologous Stem Cell Transplantation (SCT) or Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT) for Breast Cancer (2004)

Excerpt: Standard chemotherapy doses used to treat cancer are often unable to completely eradicate all of the cancer cells. Chemotherapy dosages that are high enough to eradicate cancer cells also destroy the patient’s healthy bone marrow stem cells, which are the progenitors of many types of blood and immune cells.
